ivan

hurricane Ivan with New Orleans in the corner

Update: Corinne and I evacuated with a small team from my office. We moved about half of the company's computers to a resort in Conroe, TX, just North of Houston. The drive took a grueling 14 hours, the first 7 just to get through Baton Rouge! I was happy our city was not destroyed, but I realize that Ivan could have been much worse here. I hope this doesn't make my neighbors complacent and unwilling to evacuate in the future.

The hotel was nice and we were able to get a network up and running in a conference room and control all critical operations with relative ease. I think our company learned a lot from this evacuation. We took enough computer power to run everything for weeks in case of a direct hit. I'm glad we didn't need it!

Thanks to everyone who called and e-mailed me making sure I was aware of the impending doom!

  • You were lucky. I ahd to deal with giant trees crsuhing cars and houses in my neighborhood. Granted, none of the crushed houses or cars were mine, but it was still scary at points!
