stephen nicaud
I learned from our downstairs neighbor on the 4th of July that my landlord had passed away. His name was Steve Nicaud and he was a real character. He was somewhat of a local celebrity because he dressed in a costume of spanish moss for Mardi Gras and was known as "the Mossman". Steve was a nice guy and a really great landlord and I was shocked to hear of his death. The notice was in the paper the same day as the funeral, and we didn't get the news until the next day.
I had just talked to him 2 days before he died. He had lost our utility checks in June and I had to stop payment on them and send him new ones. I'll always remember him and I can't help but wonder what happened. The tenants are all wondering what will happen to us. The rent checks would still be down in his mailbox if we hadn't brought them in. No one has come by to tell us what will happen yet. I really hope his siblings are keeping the house and renting it out. I'm scared that someone from a bank is going to show up and tell us we have a little time to get out before they auction off the property. For now, all we can do is wait…

Steve was my contractor and friend. I was out of town when he died and just found out about it. My wife Elyse and I are very sadened by this. Steve renovated a good portion of our house in Riverbend and added a wonderfull screened in back porch with a deck. We have a "Moss is Boss" Mossoman poster laminated and proudly displayed on our porch. Just yesterday I was wearing a Mossman t-shirt while strolling through the French Quarter on a walking tour.
I'll miss him.

I, too, and wondering if this is the same Steve Nicaud who was the contractor? He did some renovations on the house where I live last year and was such a nice guy. I, too, keep wondering what happened to him, though I haven't seen him in a year.

Steve was a wonderful person. I considered him my dad. He and my mom dated and even after they werent together, he still acted as a father figure to my sister and I. I loved him so much and was shocked to hear about his death. I regret most not going to the service. I did not go because I thought I could not handle it and now I regret it each time I think of him. He was so fun and doing the parades with MOSS MAN was a blast. He was always laughing.I remember when we lived on Broadway he was very good to his tenants, good luck to the tenants.

I dated & lived with steve for 5 years, he was truly a awesome person. He was very close to my 2 daughters and always told me they were the light of his life & treated them like his own children. Everyone loved Steve,he brought me much happiness & taught me so much. I was shocked to hear of his death, and i will miss him forever. For all my life Steve will always have a place in my heart. Uptown will never be the same without Steve Nicaud. I feel blessed that I have many wonderful memories of my life with him. I am deeply saddened that he was in so much pain and regret that I could not do anything to prevent his death. Steve...I will love & miss you always !!!

Steven was a very close cousin of mine. I will always remember him. He always made our family reunions at the beach so much fun. Taking the river racer out on the bay in Gulf shores and the jetskis out in the storm. Not a day goes by that I dont think of him. We all miss you and love you very much.
